Runge UMs join with other churches in activities

United Methodists led the Runge community in preparing and delivering a Thanksgiving meal to more than 250 homebound and elderly in Karnes County.
All seven churches in Runge came together in this outreach.
Through the ministerial alliance, the community was blessed to have Pastor Joseph Babu from India and Pastor Lucia Gunguwo from Zim-babwe speak at both Yorktown and Runge churches one Sunday. Gunguwo was hosted by Harlan and Sharon Metting, and Babu was hosted by the Runge Baptist community.
Both pastors spoke at Heavenly Gates, Runge; New Life Church, Cuero; and First Baptist, Runge, as well as to a number of other small groups during the week.
It was a big dose of sanctifying grace to hear both of the pastors speak.
Babu explained the persecution of living among Hindus and Muslims. It was like hearing someone living in the book of Acts: ministry to lepers, HIV victims, discarded elderly, orphans. He told of so many needs for food, water, education and medical care. He said the gospel and love of Christ are growing
very rapidly in India.
Gunguwo gave her testimony and shared her vision for the love of Christ and the AIDS orphans in Africa.
Members of about a dozen churches came together Dec. 1 for the installation service for the Rev John Jackson as pastor of Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church.
The ministerial alliance in York-town supported a communitywide Thanksgiving “dine in” meal Thanksgiving day at the local Baptist church.
The ministerial alliance youth group (JOY) supported a Christmas party for junior high and senior high kids Dec. 8. Youths brought gifts for the war injured at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio.
Kids club in November was hosted by Christians from First UMC, York-town; First Baptist, Yorktown; and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. More than 30 kids attended.
