Grant money available to help
churches support outreach
The Austin District Board of Missions Action Support Ministries provide funds to facilitate outreach ministries by existing congregations to relieve human suffering and establish new forms of such outreach within the district.
The board strongly encourages our churches to consider what needs in ministry continue to be unmet and apply for available funds.
Applications must come from organizations directly related to The United Methodist Church.
Applications are available from the District Office, (512) 444-1983 or alice@umcad.org. Deadline for return of these applications is March 26.

Simpson UMC to offer seminar
about Alzheimer’s March 1
Simpson UMC, Austin, is playing host to a free symposium on “Journey: Understanding Alzheimer’s and Memory Loss in the African-American Community” March 1 from 9 to 11:20 a.m.
The church is at 1701 E. 12th St.
The workshop is especially recommended for caregivers, family members and health providers working with those affected by dementia.
Speakers include Joyce L. Harris, associate professor in the University of Texas Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders; and Janice Paul from the Houston Department of Health and Human Services and Harris County Area Council on Aging.

2-part parenting class planned
for Feb. 17, 24 at First UMC
A parenting class is planned for Feb. 17 and 24 from 5 to 7 p.m. at First UMC, Austin.
In the two-part class, couples are to learn communication skills, child development keys, financial planning tips and much more.
Instructors include a family therapist, mediator, child development specialist, financial planner and more.
Sessions are even to tackle tough issues like sex, roles and responsibilities, and in-laws!

UM Men host big league event
featuring big league hitters
Men’s Adventure 2008 will endeavor to help men and their pastors reach more men for Jesus Christ.
The adventure is to take place Feb. 29-March 2 at Mount Wesley Conference Center, Kerrville.
The Rev. Mike Lowry, executive director of new church development and transformation, is to be the keynote speaker Feb. 29.
Registration must be submitted and paid in full by Feb. 15. Lodging is limited and is provided first-come/first served.

My Healing Place offering
grief support groups for all ages
Free ongoing grief support groups are being offered the first and third Tuesday evenings of each month for those who have experienced the death of a loved one. Age range is from 5 through adults.
