First UMC, Goliad, breaks ground Feb. 3
for 2,440-square-foot community center

First UMC, Goliad, broke ground for a new Community Life Center during a Feb. 3 ceremony.
Corpus Christi District Superintendent Barbara J. Ruth read a letter from Bishop Joel N. Martinez sending his congratulations.
The 2,440-square-foot building is to include a large fellowship area and kitchen, a classroom/conference room, and handicapped-accessible restrooms.
The new building is to connect to the current sanctuary by a covered walkway, which will be elevated to improve accessibility.
The Community Life Center replaces a fellowship hall and kitchen that were torn down to make room for the new facility.
Estimated completion is sometime this fall.
Also included in the $441,602 project is the paving of the church parking lot.
