8 students from Southwest Texas receive scholarships to UM schools

Eight students from Southwest Texas received Texas United Methodist College Association scholarships this year.
Listed by school, the students are:
> Lon Morris College, Jacksonville—Lauren Benish, Kyle UMC, Kyle.
> McMurry University, Abilene—Ronald J. Sims, First UMC, Paint Rock.
> Southwestern University, George-town—Christina Cusson, Bethany UMC, Austin; Erin Roe, Highland Lakes UMC, Buchanan Dam; Marissa Mauldin, Utopia UMC; Maryn Barnes, Trinity UMC, San Antonio; Micah L. Nerio, University UMC, San Antonio; and Michael Lutz, First UMC, Austin.
Scholarships, supported in the Southwest Texas Conference by an annual $114,505 apportionment, can be used at five United Methodist-related schools in Texas.
“TUMCA scholarship students are preparing themselves to serve God, the church and the world through their participation in programs of academic excellence and service learning,” said retired Bishop Dan E. Solomon, association president.
“Within the context of Christian higher education, our United Methodist students are deepening their faith and sharpening their skills to be transformative leaders.”
