Peter Storey to speak about prophetic ministry May 30
Peter Storey, one of Methodism’s great preachers, will be in Austin again May 30 at Parker Lane UMC, Austin from 8:30 a.m. until noon. This is a follow up from his time with the district last year. Again, the focus will be on clergy leadership in prophetic ministry, but clergy members are encouraged to invite lay members involved or interested in this component of ministry.
Storey has served as Bishop in South Africa and was the president of the South African Council of Churches during the apartheid era. During that difficult struggle he worked as a colleague with Desmond Tutu. More recently, prior to his retirement, Storey served as a professor at Duke University Divinity School.
With eloquence and energy, Storey offers wisdom and inspiration for engaging in ministries that go beyond merely helping those who are hurting to working to eradicate the causes of that pain. Storey will not just be presenting what he did last year but has also agreed to address issues and concerns those involved identify.
To identify these issues and concerns, there will be a meeting April 17, at Tarrytown UMC, Austin, at 7:30 p.m. in the fellowship hall for those who heard him last year and any others who want to join the conversation. All are welcome at that meeting.
There is no registration fee for the May 30 event, but please R.S.V.P. to Alice at the District Office at (512) 444-1983 or alice@umcad.org.
