Lay speaker training offers basic,
advanced courses in September
The Corpus Christi District has scheduled Basic and Advanced Lay Speaker Training for Sept. 7-8 at First UMC, Portland.
The basic course is for adults and youths interested in becoming lay speakers. The course content covers all areas of Lay Speaking, including personal calling, United Methodist theology, leading worship, preaching, witnessing, teaching, leadership, service and growing in faith.
Lay Speakers Lead Bible Study is the advanced course offering and is available to anyone who has completed the basic lay speaking course. This advanced course is designed to help lay speakers become versed in how to teach and lead Bible study. Upon completion of the advanced course, lay speaker status changes from local to certified.
Registration for these courses is due in the District Office by noon Aug. 30. Registrants may pick up study materials at the District Office, or these items will be mailed upon receipt of paid registration.
