Kairos ministry changes lives, impacts inmates

By Linda Barcus
Freer UMC

The last few weeks I have had people ask why I work Kairos.
To respond, I would like to share with you part of a letter that George and I received from one of the brothers in white at the McConnell unit in Beeville. Maybe after you read this letter, you will understand why we work in prison ministry and that you have this opportunity to make a difference as well!
“I want to thank you both for what you do and who you are in God. Being churchgoers is really easy, but being a Christian is tough, especially in here (the pen). The life we live on the inside is not very easy, but you both have made it a little easier for me.
My family has not written in almost a year, so please pray that they will soon. I know it must be hard for them also, but it makes it even harder for me when I don’t hear from them. If it weren’t for the letters that I received at Kairos and the love that was shown, I would have crumbled by now.

I know that my Savior loves me! It was because of Kairos. I don’t know how you got involved, but if you ever wonder if you’ve made a difference, let me be the first to say YOU HAVE! I always said if my testimony could change one person, it would all be worth it. Please know that your work in Kairos has changed at least one life...MINE! Please continue to pray for me and I will continue to pray for you.”
Your friend in Christ,
LLG

I just want to make a difference in someone’s life for the kingdom of God. Who am I to say who gets the love of Christ and who doesn’t? The Lord said, ”I was in prison and you visited me. When you have done it to the least of these, you have done it unto me.”
How better to show the love of Christ and to introduce them to a loving Father?
