Early Response Team training set for Oct. 20
Early Response Team training is scheduled for Oct. 20 at Oak Hill UMC, 7815 U.S. 290 West, Austin.
Presented by the Southwest Texas Conference Relief Disaster Preparedness Committee and UM Volunteers in Mission, the session is to be led by Jack Foreman, Bonner Brown and Emmett Eary, ERT certified trainers.
The class is to cover the purpose of an Early Response Team:
> To show that the church cares about what has happened to the people.
> To provide people an outlet for sharing their disaster-related needs.
> To assist the most vulnerable populations with their immediate needs.
> To provide assistance that will help prevent further damage to homes and property.
The class is to cover team member responsibilities, how to equip a team, how to prevent further damage (the four basic jobs) and more.
Hands-on training is to be included for tarping, tools/equipment setup, and chainsaw use and safety.
Cost is $30 (includes meal, T-shirt, badge and manuals). Make checks payable to SWTX Conference UMC and mail to Registrar, 16400 Huebner Road, San Antonio 78248.
Attendees will receive a Southwest Texas Conference Early Response Team T-shirt, an identification badge, a training resource manual, and a safe, sanitary and secure mold abatement procedures and methods manual.
The purpose of this team training is to orient people to the special needs and situations common after most natural disasters. In the first few days (and weeks sometimes) following a major storm, only teams that are trained and self-contained are useful.
