Musicians sought for Thanksgiving event in Seguin
A Victoria District music leader is calling “anyone with vibrating vocal chords” to help provide music for the 7th Annual Bishop’s Thanksgiving Gathering Nov. 18 in Seguin.
Keith Robinson, music director at First UMC, Seguin, is assembling musicians for the gathering at the Seguin-Guadalupe County Coliseum. He said he hopes many will volunteer to help.
“If you don’t have a choir but you have some folks who love to raise their voices in praise, I really want them to be a part of this celebration gathering,” Robinson said in a letter to churches. “I am also inviting youth choirs and individuals to sing with us.”
This year’s gathering, planned for Bishop Joel N. Martinez’s hometown, is to be his last as leader of the San Antonio Episcopal Area. The gatherings began in 2001 as a response to Sept. 11 terrorist attacks in New York City and Washington.
Robinson said people interested in helping provide music for the gathering should contact him so he can send out music packets to churches—the sooner the better.
Musicians should be at the coliseum Nov. 18 by 2:30 p.m. Rehearsal is to begin at 3 p.m., followed by a sound check at 4:30. Pre-service music is to begin at 4:45 p.m., with the actual gathering beginning at 5.
Musicians should plan to sing in their choir robes or choir shirts, Robinson said. He will have extra robes available but must hear in advance from individuals about what sizes they’ll need.
Pre-Service music is to include “Shout to the Lord” by Darlene Zschech, “Thank You, Lord” by Don Moen and “Come Celebrate” by Robert Leaf. Prelude is “Crown Him with Many Crowns,” performed by the hand bell choir from First UMC, Seguin.
Other songs include “Gloria a Dios,” “Come Ye Thankful People Come,” “I Feel Jesus in This Place,” “Santo, Santo, Santo,” “Give Thanks,” the traditional “Doxology” and “We Gather Together.”
Raquel Martinez, the bishop’s wife, is to provide special music, “Rule of Life.”
