Vision in stitches

Coker UM struggles for
years to capture image
from God on tapestry

An intricate piece of fiber art sits just inside the entrance to Robyn Hensley’s San Antonio home. It is her reminder of the miracles God can do in the life of a broken child.
Every thread that outlines the body of Jesus, the Holy Spirit’s cloud and the angels’ faces hidden in the stars bears a piece of her healing journey.
Hers is a journey of first place ribbons, restored relationships and brand new eyes.
The journey began long before God gave Hensley a vision to create the fiber masterpiece in 1999. The journey began with a little girl growing up in a home full of alcoholism, yelling and no mention of Jesus.

5 congregations join welcoming list;
conference total reaches 150

The count of certified welcoming congregations in the Southwest Texas Conference reached 150 last month.
Five more churches joined the list in late November. Another congregation renewed its welcoming certification for a second year.
New welcoming congregations are:
> First UMC, Smithville, Austin District, certified Nov. 26.
> Karnes City UMC, Corpus Christi District, certified Nov. 26.
> Dripping Springs UMC, Austin District, certified Nov. 26.
> St. Mark UMC, Austin, Austin District, certified Nov. 27.
> Eagle Lake UMC, Victoria District, certified Nov. 30.
Lehrer Memorial UMC, Eagle Lake, renewed its certification for a second year. Welcome certification must be renewed annually.

Prayer anchors Dec. 24 outreach effort

Nothing happens at Grace UMC, Corpus Christi, without prayer.
The congregation’s involvement this month in the Home for Christmas outreach campaign is built on prayer.
“Both our pastors believe heavily in the power of prayer,” said Kay Plummer, Home for Christmas campaign organizer for the 968-member Corpus Christi congregation. “Prayer is an important part of Grace. We say that every Sunday. We felt like we couldn’t do this (campaign) without a day of prayer.”

Schertz UMs work to ‘be the church,’
not go to church


Wynonah Biggs was a prisoner in her
own Schertz home.
Because of macular degeneration, she could no longer see the stairs that led from her front door to her yard. For safety reasons, her doctor had advised her to steer clear of those steps. But they were her only way out.
